JOAN SEAMAN AND THE BOYS IN HUGHSON STREET, LIVERPOOL

Mum Joan SEAMAN around 1959/1960, with Gary on her knee and Graham holding the lorry. Pictured in a rare colour photo of the time, sitting on the couch in her parents rented home in Hughson Street, Toxteth, Liverpool 8. The house was a small two-up, two-down terraced house in which we were all living at theContinue reading “JOAN SEAMAN AND THE BOYS IN HUGHSON STREET, LIVERPOOL”

HILLMAN MINX AND COBBLES IN TOXTETH (1964)

For the ‘Wordless Wednesday’ blog prompt today I submit this beauty from the early 1960’s. Hughson Street, Toxteth… the row of neat two-up two-down houses where we lived… Mum, little bro and I on the step in dubious socks and short trousers… and a Hillman Minx from around 1964. And of course, the cobbles.  ItContinue reading “HILLMAN MINX AND COBBLES IN TOXTETH (1964)”

SCRIVENER AND FAMILY HISTORY

I was rootling about on the web earlier conducting a bit of family history research – trying to find how many UK-based blogsites there were available compared to all the sites based in the US. One of my searches pulled up a link to this video, a webinar by Lynn Palermo featured on The ArmchairContinue reading “SCRIVENER AND FAMILY HISTORY”

347/365 – LIVERPOOL RESEARCH

Been able to move things along with great-grampys merchant sea record now that the Liverpool Crew Lists have been put onto Ancestry. Documented a 1904 cargo trip from Liverpool to France, Brazil, Manaos and then back again…at least four more of these (and some) to go. Feeling more closely connected to him than ever before…Continue reading “347/365 – LIVERPOOL RESEARCH”

FAMILY HISTORY – THE PUZZLE

Catching up with some photo processing for Project365, I came across this photo of an old WW2 medal which had been in my Aunt’s possession when she died. She had previously told me that it had belonged to my grandfather and had been given to him after he had served in the war, however IContinue reading “FAMILY HISTORY – THE PUZZLE”

GENEALOGY – SMITHFIELD

This is the street in Sheffield where Club Mill Yard was situated. Rebecca Evans, 17 years old, was assaulted there by Frederick Lait (my 1st cousin 3 times removed) and the girl died in the street shortly afterwards. Frederick was only 15 years old at the time. #Project365 #Photoaday #FamilyHistory #Genealogy

FAMILY HISTORY – SING A SONG OF SIXPENCE

ARCHIVING AUDIO – FAMILY HISTORY <click HERE for link to soundfile > A busy day doing ordinary, everyday type-of Saturday stuff, but while I’m doing that my studio machines are archiving the family history , and currently converting audio cassettes to digital. The tape just completed is dated from 10 February 1985 and features ourContinue reading “FAMILY HISTORY – SING A SONG OF SIXPENCE”

GENEALOGY – TESSIE ABERNETHY

This is a short audio clip of my Mum, Joan Seaman, talking about her friendship with one of her friends, Tess Abernethy from the Dingle in Liverpool. Mum worked with Tess during the 1950’s and ‘60’s and they were both employed as usherettes in the local cinema, The Gaumont, Princes Park. As Mum describes inContinue reading “GENEALOGY – TESSIE ABERNETHY”

GENEALOGY – TAPESPONDING

Before the days of ‘instant news’, ‘in-your-face’ data and the Internet, things happened at a more leisurely pace. Methods of keeping in touch with loved ones, even those who lived only a relatively short distance away in the next town, would include either a telephone call (if you had one), or more likely a cardContinue reading “GENEALOGY – TAPESPONDING”
