On this very important day we are all moved to recall the memory of those who fell in the Great War; those who failed to come home from the devastating conflict which began 100 years ago today. But I chose to also honour those souls who fought so bravely in the trenches and on Flanders Fields, the ones who returned home wounded to then be sent back out to fight again. Those people like my Grandad, William John Welsh.

We owe these people such a great deal… the hardships they faced, the untold terrors they saw and endured, which would remain with them, and be pushed back deep into their memory. Thank goodness they returned, for at the end of the day we owe them everything… we owe them our lives.
