RECENT HISTORY – HARTSBOURNE HEIGHTS

RECENT HISTORY - HARTSBOURNE HEIGHTS

Just going through some old photos and came across this one from around 1971, with my brother Gary playing on the Rocket in Hartsbourne Park with some local kids.

The swing park will be remembered fondly by kids of a certain age who grew up in the south-Liverpool suburb, as it had a gravel football pitch and changing room facilities which were well-used during its lifetime, as well as the climbing frames and roundabouts for us to play on.

Behind the park stand blocks two and three of Hartsbourne Heights. These are two of three tower blocks which stood on Wellgreen Road. On the other side of Hartsbourne Avenue were the three taller blocks of Childwall Heights where our family lived.

All six blocks have long since been replaced by homes built by Anchor Housing Group, and to the left of where the Rocket was situated in the photograph is now the Valley Medical Centre.

Those of us who grew up in the area will have good memories of this place…
