89/365 – ST.DUNSTAN’S CHURCH, EDGE HILL

89/365 - ST.DUNSTAN'S CHURCH, EDGE HILL

Robert Taylor LAIT was my great, great-uncle who was born in Great Grimsby in 1875. He came to Liverpool when he was 6 years old, his family moving over here around 1881 to settle in the area. He had various jobs through his life, working in the local water works, packing and hiring out bottles, and also as a carter involved in furniture removals. He married a local girl – Jennett Forgan Philips from Tranmere – in St.Dunstan’s Church in 1895. The couple had 5 children who survived into infancy. St.Dunstan’s Church itself was consecrated on 18 May 1889. It was built for the Earle Family, whose name adorns the road the building stands in. In architectural style, it is similar to St.Benedict’s Church in Everton and is constructed from red Ruabon brick.
