St.Catherines Church – Tunnel Road
My connections to the LAIT (or LAITE) family, depending on how you choose to spell it, go back through my father and his mother’s paternal family. I have linked the family back to the towns of Diss and Eye in the east of England, through Great Grimsby in Lincolnshire and finally to Liverpool. Historically my branch of the family started their working lives as coachbuilders – and as such they would most likely have constructed everything from carts, wagons and wheelbarrows to horse-drawn coaches of many kinds.
It was while I have been looking into this branch of family history recently that I found this brilliant resource, THE EDGE HILL ARCHIVE, consisting of photos and sound clip interviews of many of the people who used to live and work within the area. Of course Edge Hill is famous for its links with the birth of the railways in Britain, and although the railway content is included, the site actually contains much more – many fascinating reminiscences of people in their daily lives.
I’m still working my way through the interviews themselves, but would recommend anyone to take a look at if you have any connections with the area.
